springtime in san francisco
Oh... There just is no time to keep this blog updated regularly, and it's not for lack of things to talk about, that's for sure. I'd love to discuss the impact of reading William T. Vollmann's Europe Central or how My First Recession has changed the way I think about community and communication on the internet. And I'll get to those eventually, it's just that with my part-time job, writing a SuperCollider patch for a piece by Rob Manthey in Holland, working on Lee's webpage, collaborating with several people on music projects, going to a lot of shows (there are some interesting things scheduled in San Francisco for once), and trying to have something like a social presence amongst my friends, well, the blog tends to get left to the end of that list. But I can see a resurgence on the horizon, spring is here which, in San Francisco, means cold damp rainy days: perfect weather to tap the latest thrills of my life online.
One thing I am happy about, having returned to San Francisco, is reuniting with my little studio workspace, as seen below.

Interesting shows? I have to agree. I've got my eye on a few upcoming events, but I wanted to ask . . . did you see Vitalic last Thursday? I really wanted to go but ended up on the coast that night instead.

I missed the Vitalic show... And I'm totally curious what shows you're interested in? For me, interesting means Paul Taylor dance tomorrow night, afterwards the Rock Out w/o your Cock Out party at Edinburgh Castle then Through the Glass Darkly at Theater Artaud on Saturday. Also there's an interesting Dou Varone dance movie screening Tuesday night at YBCA.

I'm envious. I'm stuck down in Palo Alto. But to answer your question, I'm most enthused about what blasthaus / the Rx Gallery / boca have started -- Pantha du Prince is playing a set on Saturday that I'm really hoping to get up to, and the rest of their spring line-up looks enticing. I'm not sure exactly how our tastes compare - I think I have more tolerance for, or interest in, slightly more mainstream artists - but I've really liked the new music links I've found on your blog so far.
But speaking of movie screenings. Drawing Restraint 9 was apparently released yesterday. Is it playing anywhere around here?

i've been recommending boca to everybody! i might go late on saturday night to check out that show. i'll be the one looking uncomfortable, hanging out with a very well-dressed gentleman in black with a yellow scarf.
i don't know of drawing restraint showing around here, anybody know?

I will look for you, although I'm not sure how late I'll be staying.
I poked around for info on the movie; apparently SFMoMA is going to be the site for the only US presentation of the entirety of Drawing Restraint (there's apparently a tremendous installment that accompanies the film). DR9 is going to be shown daily there throughout the summer. Good things come to those who wait, I suppose. Sometimes I do like living here.
